THE ORACLE OF DELPHI

THE ORACLE OF DELPHI
In the mountains above Delphi, where mist rose from cracks in the earth and the wind whispered through the pines, stood the oracle of the god Apollo. Kings, military leaders and ordinary people journeyed there, all with the same question: »What does fate hold?«
At the centre of the temple sat the Pythia—a priestess chosen from among many. Her seat was a dark wooden tripod positioned above a fissure in the earth from which mysterious vapours rose. People said those vapours carried the voices of the gods. But the truth was more complex—and more mysterious. Before the Pythia took her seat on the tripod, she withdrew to a hidden chamber of the temple that no one except the other priestesses was allowed to enter. There they performed an ancient purification ceremony—a ritual that was not merely physical, but above all spiritual. Stone vessels held warm water infused with herbs from the mountain slopes: bay laurel, thyme and mysterious flowers whose names had already been forgotten. The priestesses believed that the body had to be open, the mind calm and the spirit prepared in order to receive the voice of something greater. Before giving her prophecy, the priestess therefore warmed and cleansed her body by sitting above herbal steam and connecting with the spirits of the plants. When the Pythia returned, wrapped in simple white cloth, she was different. Her eyes seemed deeper and her steps slower. As she sat on the tripod, vapours began to envelop her face like living mist. The people waited in silence. Then she spoke. Her words were not always clear—they were like dreams, riddles and echoes of something ancient. Priests wrote them down, interpreted them and shaped them into meanings that could decide wars and the fate of kingdoms. But among the priestesses, something else was whispered: that the prophecies came not only from the gods, but from a deep connection between body, earth and spirit. For them, the preparatory ritual was the key—not a puzzle to be solved, but a bridge between worlds. And so the Oracle of Delphi remained a place where reality and myth intertwined, where no one knew with certainty where the answers came from. Perhaps that was its greatest power. Or perhaps its mysterious power lies precisely in the fact that this is the first recorded account of a yoni steam bath, now available to you as well.
